STAR (Self-Transformation and Rehabilitation) @ Project Pride was service project at a residential facility for women with a history of substance abuse aimed at promoting personal and professional development. Planning for the project began in February with a team of 17 people (15 YAs). Volunteers took on various roles like content leads, big group facilitators, 1:1 tutors, and tech support.
Our group worked with a total of 11 residents, also occasionally providing child support as necessary. We had 7 weekly 1.5 hour sessions on Mondays from May 5 to June 27. Each session consisted of a big group discussion and 1:1 tutoring with the residents. Topics covered in the big group discussion included Self-Confidence, Stress Management, Budgeting, Job search, Resume Building, and Interview prep. The 1:1 sessions were catered to the resident's needs to help with computer skills, interview prep, mindfulness sessions and more.
As of now, we are continuing the 1:1 sessions for 6 more weeks based on interest from the residents. To join our planning WhatsApp group or for questions/suggestions, contact Mounika or Madhu.
